Awards
The Canadian Society of Ecology and Evolution is pleased to announce
the following awards received by its members:
- Alice Boyle (University of Western Ontario): Ned K. Johnson Young Investigator Award (American Ornithologists' Union)
- Michael Kasumovic (University of New South Wales): Young Investigator Award (American Society of Naturalists)
- Sally Otto (University of British Columbia): Guggenheim
- Louis Bernatchez (Université Laval): In recognition of the pioneer role that he played in the emergence of molecular ecology and the broad impact of his research in speciation, phylogeography, population genomics, conservation genetics, and applied evolution, Louis Bernatchez was recently elected as Member of the Royal Society of Canada.
- James D. Thomson (University of Toronto): James Thomson has been elected to fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada, with induction scheduled for November 2011. He was recognized for broad contributions to pollination ecology and pollinator behaviour, particularly for pioneering empirical studies of the fates of pollens grains, together with models of the consequences for floral evolution.

Ryan Gregory (University of Guelph) received the Robert H. Haynes Young Scientist Award (Genetics Society of Canada)
- Rees Kassen (University of Ottawa) and Diane Srivastava (University of British Columbia) were awarded E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowships from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Read More

the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in October 2009.

- Andrew Hendry (McGill University): E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada)

Dr. Kathy Martin received the 2008 Doris
Huestis Speirs Award at the joint annual meetings of
the Society of Canadian Ornithologists and the American
Ornithologists Union in Portland, Oregon. The award
is given to an individual who has made “outstanding
lifetime contributions in Canadian ornithology.” Her
work includes influential studies on the ecology, life history,
behaviour and conservation of birds in arctic and alpine,
