Other news of interest to ecologists and evolutionists in Canada:
- The European Ecological Federation Congress announces a Call
for Proposals for the next biannual meeting (formerly known
as 'EURECO'). The meeting will be held in Ávila, a UNESCO
World Heritage Site 113km from Madrid, Spain, from 25-29 September
2011.
- A
new academy has been announced to empower and encourage young
scientists to become scientific and public leaders
- Seabirds:
Linking the Global Oceans, 1st World Seabird Conference, September
7-11, 2010, Victoria, Canada. The 1st World Seabird Conference
International
Steering Committee, led by the Pacific Seabird Group and
25 other professional seabird and research organisations from
around the world, is leading the development of this important,
inaugural conference focused on seabirds. Through
a strong conference
program, the goal of this Conference is to put seabird management
and conservation into a worldwide perspective. By bringing 500
- 600 participants from over 30 countries together, we will comprehensively
address the global issues and data needs for these species,
most of which inhabit multiple countries and waters within their
own ranges.
- Nature
calls on Canada to have a bigger vision of science policy
- Volume 2 (2009) for Ideas in Ecology and Evolution is now
complete (http://library.queensu.ca/ojs/index.php/IEE/issue/current),
including a year-end editorial with reflection on the journal's
first full year of operation, the ongoing mission of the journal,
and anticipation for future growth. IEE is a peer-reviewed,
open-access journal published at Queen's University, welcoming
submissions of forum-style papers involving new ideas and commentaries
from all areas of study in ecology and evolution.

IN ECOLOGY AND EVOLUTION (IEE) is a new Canadian journal
for ecologists and evolutionists published at Queen's
University. It is open-access and dedicated
to the rapid release of creativity in peer-review publication.
IEE publishes only short forum-style articles that develop
new ideas or that involve original commentaries dealing
with any topic in the broad domains of ecology and evolution.
