Student Presentation Awards at CSEE 2007 (Toronto)
We wish to congratulate the winners of the student competitions for talks and posters. Prizes for talks were award to:
- Blackwell Publishing Prize for Best Graduate Student Talk, Patrick Leighton (McGill), Depredation of sea turtle nests by introduced mongooses in Barbados, West Indies.
- Annals of Botany Prize for Best Botanical Graduate Student Talk, Jannice Friedman (UT), A phylogenetic analysis of the evolution of wind pollination in the angiosperms.
- Roberts and Company Publishers Prize for Best Zoological Graduate Student Talk, Jason Peterson (SFU), How changing ecological conditions impact maternal allocation decisions.
The student poster prizes were donated by the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (University of Toronto). The poster prizes were awarded to:
- First prize: Alethea Wang (UT), Conditon Dependent Mutation Rates in Drosophila Melanogaster
- Second prize: Sandra Rehan (Brock), Sex ratio analysis in Ceratina calcarata (Hymenoptera: Xylocopinae), a solitary twig-nesting bee.
- Honorable mention: Nathaniel Sharp (UT), Density-dependent sexual selection against deleterious mutations in D. melanogaster
- Honorable mention: Janice Ting (UT, Mississauga), Do females differentially allocate to the offspring of high quality mates using song as a cue?
